Be enthralled by Rome's sinister history and explore the dark shadows of the Historic Centre at night....walk through two cited haunted locations; stand on the very site of public execution, and learn all about the most infamous characters of Rome's grisly past from Ancient Rome, to the Medieval era right up to the 19th Century.
We've always maintained that there are three Romes: early morning Rome - before the city has woken up, piazzas are quiet except for a few pigeons, and the aroma of fresh cornetti and coffee fill the air; daytime Rome - bustling and chaotic, bursting with colour and architectural riches that overpower the senses; and finally there's nighttime Rome - a quieter place, trodden by like-minded souls who enjoy exploring this darker face of the city, passing seductive restaurants lit up from inside buzzing with chatter. On this tour, you will be experience Rome by Night!
Our thoroughly researched "Avarice, Death & Witchery" Private Tour is the only one of its kind and one of the more unusual things to do in the Eternal City - not a typical ghost tour but we do talk about Rome's ghosts and visit (externally) burial sites. You will learn of the lives and destinies of key inhabitants of the city's past, including uncomfortable stories of Rome's witches; of how history has shaped our ideas of witchcraft and sorcery from Roman times through to the Middle Ages, and other fascinating (sometimes shocking) facts that make up a part of Rome's lesser talked about history.
We will walk through piazzas, streets and alleys full of atmosphere - the perfect setting for a ghoulish encounter. Over the years (even in the past decade) a number of people have claimed to have encountered spirits in the very places along our route. Your "storyteller" will bring the characters and periods to life, narrating the tales at specific points along the way weaving together the various threads throughout the tour, giving colour to these sad, mysterious and often gruesome tales. Questions are always welcome and you have chance to take photos.
At the conclusion of your tour you can either bid us farewell, or you can hypothesise further on the existence of spirits with a beer, wine, or a late night meal, in the spookiest pub in Rome, which dates back to the 1400's, located not far from Piazza Navona. If required we can point you in the direction of the nearest taxi rank or pizza restaurant.
