NORBA TAKES TOP SPOT!
Not too surprising - it's easy to reach, plenty of parking and not that far from the A1 Roma-Napoli motorway: the "Autostrada del Sole" approx 90mins from Rome.
The leaping-off point is at Norba an ancient Roman site - once a military fort - and very close by is the "modern" medieval village of Norma where you can go eat and relax inbetween thermals (and I don't mean winter underwear.....or maybe I do).
Rather more tame than Norba or San Donato, but no less beautful, is Lake Albano - sometimes also called Lake Castel Gandolfo after the most important village situated around the edge, which is also the Summer residence of the Pope. This ex-volcano crater has higher ridges where you see the paragliders and the Pope's residence is across the lake in the lower part. We don't know where the jumping off point is for around here but we will find out and update.
Next favourite of ours is SAN DONATO - it has such stunning landscapes and the village is oh so pretty! it could almost be a stage-set. We took the route from the AI then took the 'Superstrada Ferentino-Sora" (Sora is a great town for shopping...take a big wallet!! or drive quickly through without stopping), then up, up and up some more into the mountains. At one point we found ourselves on route 666 which was freaky as there were many motorbikes hurtling past us like bats out of hell.
If you are a paragliding nut this website is fairly informative and if we can assist you with your dream flying holiday in Lazio, or help you with any of the following, please get in touch: accommodation, airport transfers or anything else not mentioned.
