"It is a spot which should not fail to be visited by everyone who feels interest in the antiquities of early Italy" - quote by George Dennis (1847).
Trek-fit while you learn on your next Italian vacation and then relax your bones in an outdoor Etruscan hot spring! #etruscanadventure
If you enjoy trekking, or want to be fitter, and have an interest in the Etruscan civilisation but you like to relax too, then we think you'll love this new tour.
Your day will start from Rome, travelling along the ancient Cassia Way to Sutri - an historically important town which was on the border between Rome and Etruria, for your first guided walk of the Etruscan necropolis. Here you will have chance for a refreshment break, after which we head towards the Marturanum Park to different kinds of Etruscan tombs called rock or porch tombs - this site is twinned with the Nabateans in Petra, Jordan.
Following an approximate 2-hour trek - where you are certain to feel like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft - we have two lunch options (cost not included):
Following your relaxed lunch we proceed to one of the several Etruscan hot springs that characterise this geographical area where you get to soak up the volcanic mineral-rich waters for at least 2 hours. Finally return to Rome enriched and relaxed!
For the hot springs we provide use of towels and shower gel/shampoo, but you will need to bring suitable footwear such as flip-flops or similar to walk between the pools, or you can go barefoot on the grass if you prefer.
George Dennis - a British diplomat, explorer of Etruria, writer and scholar, wrote this about one of the places in our Itinerary "it is a spot which should not fail to be visited by everyone who feels interest in the antiquities of early Italy". He visited the tombs in the mid 19th century, (1847) together with friend and artist Samuel Ainsley).
We currently run this tour Sundays only.
We don't run this tour in August.
Based on departure / return to Rome this tour requires 11 hours.
Please get in touch if you are based elsewhere in Lazio (eg. Viterbo or Tarquinia), or if you would like to customise this tour.
