A gourmet foodie tour out of Rome for food & nature lovers who want to explore the Roman countryside and discover local artisan meats, cheeses, chocolates and more!
“The trouble with eating Italian food is that five or six days later you’re hungry again.” George Miller, Director
This day trip is all about delicious local artisan food in the countryside to the north of Rome, travelling approximately 90 minutes away through quaint towns and villages where you get to observe local Italian country life.
There are five delicious stops throughout the day including a chocolate tasting at one of the territories best hazelnut & chocolate factories with a selection of white, milk and plain chocolate, chocolate covered nuts and fruits, chocolate spreads and liqueurs, with chance to purchase. During the various annual festivities, such as Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, they produce special edition chocolates and other chocolate and hazelnut products. You next brief stop will be to a delicious rustic bakery where you can decide to purchase a custard-cream filled croissant as a second breakfast or take-away pizza or healthy vegetable pie. There will be chance to stop for a refreshment break and coffee before heading to our next appointment which will be at an exclusive artisan cured ham factory where you will be led on a private guided tour of the workshop, the ageing room and finally a wonderful tasting accompanied by an excellent local wine.
In the afternoon you will be visiting one or two artisan cheese producers in the romantic old part of Montefiascone with chance for tastings of cheeses aged in straw, ash, red wine, Buffalo mozzarella and ricotta made from sheep's milk, plus other kinds of local cheeses. To conclude your day you will have a wine tasting of several local versions of the famous Est! Est!! Est!!! as well as other red, white and rosé wines in a tasting room hewn into the rock accompanied by light buffet.
This is a private tour, accompanied by local English-speaking experts.
