Busy Doing Nothing - a day "Away from it All" returning to Rome Re-energised!
Visit two oases of tranquillity on this day trip of relaxation, combining earth and water, starting with a picturesque route on your drive from Rome (or Viterbo) into our chosen area through uncontaminated countryside to reach the natural hot spring spa where you will have between 2-3 hours to enjoy the mineral-rich waters, releasing any tensions you may have as you float and swim in the various healing pools. The complex (recognised by the Italian Ministry of Health) has several pools each at different temperatures (the hottest is 42°C, so you're advised to stay in no longer than 10-15 minutes at a time, whereas the other pools range from approximately 28 - 37°), which you are free to alternate between and of course spend time relaxing on your sun lounger or enjoying a light snack at the open air cafe. When ready, you may use the shower/changing facilities and we will proceed on to our next stop for lunch.
Lunch will be in the absolutely delightful historical town of Tuscania - famous for its annual lavender festival, its many medieval towers and (according to one legend) being founded by Ascanius, son of Aeneas - where you will be able to choose between a couple of excellent restaurants, one has ancient cellars with vaulted ceiling, another with views of the attractive valley. Time permitting, we may be able to visit the churches of St. Peter and Saint Mary Major - both have stunning architecture, frescoes, ornate Cosmati mosaics and decorative stonemasonry.
Our last stop will be around mid-afternoon where you will be able to explore the area's largest botanical garden, rich with all manner of attractive and strange plants from around the world, taking in informal descriptions as you breathe in the heady uplifting scents around you and afterwards we return you to your hotel relaxed and recharged!
