From the Agro Pontino (and the myth of Aeneas), to the foot of the Alban Hills (and the legend of Romulus and Remus), Etruscan and Volsci tribes cultivated grapes, firmly making their mark and leading the way for future oenological endeavours, culminating in the superb wines of today.
Vedi il calor del sol che si fa vino, dentro l'umor che dalla vite cola - Purgatorio XXV Canto. Translated poetically: See the heat of the sun that becomes the wine, within the pulp that flows from the vine.
SAMPLE ITINERARY: Starting with the 'coastal' theme you will have an invigorating second breakfast, soothed by the therapeutic sounds of the waves and relaxing your eyes as you gaze out onto the horizon at this quaint maritime town.
We take a short drive to the first vineyard in an area where evidence of ancient settlements and cults date back to the 9th century BC. Here you will be in the capable hands of your private guide for full tour of the estate, winery and aging rooms where you will learn about their experimentation with various grape varieties, after which you will taste at least 7 wines accompanied by a selection of cheeses such as Parmesan, Pecorino, Primo Sale, plus Porchetta (stuffed pig with herbs and a little garlic), rustic bread and extra virgin olive oil. This is a great place to learn about international grape varieties that have adapted to - and are thriving and excelling in - the Lazio territory as well as a selection of autochthonous varieties.
For lunch we propose one of two restaurants, both situated in countryside - one is a tavern serving typical homemade dishes in an authentic atmosphere, the other is a Michelin starred restaurant with a slight focus on seafood. Please let us know which lunch option you prefer as the restaurant will need to be booked well ahead.
To reach the second vineyard we travel further inland to a relatively new wine producer, creating optimum wines, designed for elegance and sophistication on the palate, using accurate studies, avant-guard methods and scientific vinification techniques and are positioning themselves among the wine elite in Lazio, Italy and worldwide. We are privileged to be allowed to include this exceptional producer in our portfolio.
Grape varieties on this tour include:
Whites: bellone, chardonnay, petit manseng, viognier
Reds: cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, cesanese, merlot, syrah
