Sabaudia and San Felice Circeo are close neighbours but with strikingly different characters and centuries apart. But what they have in common is the sea, attractive surroundings, and a handful of elegant boutiques.
SAMPLE ITINERARY: All of our private beach trips require an early start so we generally pick you up at your accommodation at 7am. The route is attractive once we are out of the city and we break for a 'second breakfast'/refreshment stop, approximately midway between Rome and our destination.
San Felice Circeo is well known being the site of various Neanderthal findings and also a place strongly connected with mythology, sorcery and the famous Circeo Witch (Maga Circe) who fell in love with Ulysses. We start with a 2-hour excursion around the headland in a typical Italian fishing boat called a Gozzo. You will have a relaxed narration of the history of the ancient sea caves and mythology as we sail around the promontory whereupon we drop the anchor for a while so that you may swim off the boat. There are floats which you can use if you wish.
If we find out on the day that the boat excursion is not possible due to adverse sailing conditions you would be led on a sightseeing stroll along a section of the Circeo National Park promontory amidst attractive Mediterranean vegetation, where you would see ancient Cyclopean walls, arriving at a beauty spot from where to admire the stunning panoramas.
You will visit the attractive old town for a guided walk, plus time to yourselves to explore, shop, enjoy another coffee and further admire the panoramic views. We usually have a light lunch here in the main piazza.
After a relaxed lunch it's all about sunbathing and swimming, eventually departing for Rome around 5pm or sooner if you want to be back in Rome earlier than 7pm.
All of our beach trips can be further tailored.
This tour is available June, July, August.
NB* we don't run this tour at weekends in high season (July, August).
This excursion requires a full day.
Note: please inform us if you are a non-swimmer. This isn't an issue for the beach as the water is very low at the seashore, but it's important to let the skipper know for the boat ride. Your travel insurance should cover you for leisure sailing.
