True connoisseurs do not drink wine: they taste secrets - Salvador Dali
SAMPLE ITINERARY: This excursion begins with an energetic drive up the Rome-Florence motorway into the heart of the area known locally as Tuscia. The route takes us past untamed countryside and a small castle that writer, film director and intellectual, Pier Paolo Pasolini discovered during filming one of his movies, shortly after which he purchased and spent time living in the property.
The day will include a stop at a rural hamlet, situated on the edge of a steep ravine, from where you will be able to admire the "Dying City" from across the valley, a guided walk of the Civita itself - an extraordinary, unique and magical place founded by the Etruscans circa 2500 years ago, a delicious lunch and a private vineyard tour. Our chosen wine producer makes the best classic wines of the territory, of which you will be sampling 3, as well as an in-depth guided tour of the cellars and attractive grounds.
Access to the Civita, located on an outcrop, is accessible only on foot connected by a suspension bridge, which takes approximately 15 minutes to cross. It is uphill on the way there with a steep incline near the top, so happily the return to the vehicle is almost all downhill.
For lunch you we can highly recommend a characteristic restaurant (à la carte), lovingly run by several generations of the same family, serving local cuisine (seated inside elegant dug out caves or outdoors on a pretty patio area with sun parasols).
